“Faith is a refusal to panic.” D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
Many years ago, soon after I first went into business, and the Great Recession was in full swing, a client shared this quote with me. It has served us both well over the years. The world is changing every day, and new disruptions appear with every newscast. It’s easy to slip into panic mode. People are doing it everywhere. You can see the panic in empty grocery store shelves, the queues at the coffee shops, and a complete lack of available toilet paper every time a crisis happens. Fear is not helpful. It is quite the opposite. We make poor decisions in panic mode and fail to see the opportunities for the taking. Case in point, what do people do with all the toilet paper?
We avoid panic through faith in the following areas:
- Have faith in yourself. Know that you are a thoroughly competent human who can muster the skills to face any situation.
- Have faith in your company. If your company is well run, agile, and ready to adapt, it will survive, and so will your source of income.
- Have faith in the world. We are all connected in this world. Through that connection, we will all come through every crisis.
- Have a plan. When we create a plan for our lives and live with intention, it’s easy to have faith in ourselves and avoid panic when the unexpected happens.
RADical Action of the Week
When you feel the first signs of panic, repeat this mantra to yourself.
I always find the resources necessary to face any problem. I have the tools and skills I need to reach my wildest dreams. Obstacles add to the journey and help me discover new paths. I am strong, and I am powerful. I am unstoppable.
