Practice RADical Self Discipline

Do you have self-discipline?  Or should I say do you have the level of self-discipline necessary to achieve your goals?  A true sign of self-discipline is motivating oneself despite a negative emotional state in furthering one’s goals.  Do you show up every day and give your best efforts toward your goals no matter how you feel?

We have tremendous amounts of commitment and discipline to many tasks in our life without even thinking about it, brushing our teeth, playing our weekly golf game, watching our favorite show, checking our social media accounts, and many others.  Imagine the result if you displayed this level of commitment to doing the tasks necessary to make your business and yourself grow.

Here are a few ways to practice RADical self-discipline and create the life you desire:

  • Fully commit – decide once and for all that you are committed to these activities. Be real.  We are either committed to doing what it takes or committed to not reaching our goals.
  • Get rid of all your excuses, explanations, and reasons – whatever you call them; they are getting in the way of your accomplishments. No excuses, just do it, no matter what.
  • Schedule them into your calendar – and treat those appointments with respect.
  • Set a time limit – I will do this for a week, a month, or a quarter. This method works particularly well with tasks you know you need to do but do not enjoy.
  • Review the results – Positive reinforcement works wonders for creating good habits.

Focus on your self-discipline, and the results will speak for themselves.  It does not take much time to start seeing positive results.

RADical Success Idea of the Week

Pick something you have failed to achieve or put off for a while – the foreign language you want to learn, the database that needs cleaning up, the business plan that needs to be written – and commit to spending some time either every day or every week working on it.  I recommend working on it 15 minutes a day but do whatever works for you.  Once you finish the task, reach out and let me know your experience.
